Panama
For me, it started with a simple yet powerful idea: I wanted to help. As someone deeply drawn to healthcare and the idea of making a tangible difference in people’s lives, I had always envisioned myself contributing in meaningful ways. But it wasn’t until I joined a Medical Brigade in Panama that this passion truly came to life.
The decision to go wasn’t easy. I questioned if I was ready, if I had the skills to make an impact, or if I’d just be another pair of hands in an overwhelming sea of need. But something inside me told me to stop overthinking and take the leap. After all, isn’t every great story born from a moment of courage?
When I arrived, I was immediately immersed in the rhythm of the brigade. Over the course of our work, I became a medical assistant, helping provide care to over 400 patients in internal medicine, dentistry, and physical therapy. I wasn’t just observing—I was deeply involved. I listened to patients, helped them get their medications, and supported the healthcare team every step of the way. My background in pharmacy proved invaluable as I assisted the pharmacist with packing supplies and filling prescriptions. Every task, no matter how small, felt like a puzzle piece in the larger picture of patient care.
I’ll admit, there were moments of doubt. Could I truly make a difference? But each patient interaction brought clarity and confidence. I saw the impact of our team work in their smiles, their relief, and the way they expressed gratitude. It wasn’t about being perfect—it was about showing up, giving my best, and letting that be enough.
This experience taught me a valuable lesson: growth doesn’t come from standing still or waiting until you feel ready. It comes from action, from doing the work, and from allowing yourself to evolve along the way.
Panama wasn’t just a trip or a temporary experience—it was a defining chapter in my journey. It solidified my commitment to healthcare and my desire to serve communities in need. But it’s only one part of a much larger story. I know that my path will continue to evolve, just as I will.
If there’s one thing I’ve learned, it’s that beginnings don’t have to be perfect. Maybe you’re starting a business, pursuing a creative project, or taking a leap into the unknown. Whatever it is, start where you are. Trust that the pieces will come together, and remember that your story will keep evolving.
The beauty of it all is that you don’t have to figure everything out right now. Do what feels right for this moment. The rest? It always takes care of itself.
